Ready to get your hands dirty and discover the art of working with clay?
Clay 101 is our weekly introduction to handbuilding ceramics and the perfect place to begin your clay journey. Whether you're completely new to ceramics or looking to build confidence with your skills, this beginner-friendly class will teach you the foundations of working with clay while creating functional pieces you'll be proud to use and display.
Each class includes step-by-step instruction from our ceramic artists as you learn essential techniques including preparing clay, creating strong connections with slipping and scoring, and building forms using beginner-friendly handbuilding methods.
During this class, you'll create two functional clay projects:
Handbuilt Square Vessel
Create a versatile ceramic piece perfect for holding plants, art supplies, kitchen utensils, or other everyday treasures.
Coiled Trinket Dish
Learn how to build with clay coils and transform them into a beautiful dish designed to hold jewelry, keys, rings, or other small keepsakes.
No experience is necessary. All materials, tools, instruction, firing, and glazing are included. Your finished pieces will be kiln-fired and glazed after class and will be ready for pickup approximately 3–4 weeks following the class date.
Join us for one class or make Thursday clay nights part of your creative routine. Clay 101 is the perfect starting point before exploring more advanced clay techniques, specialty workshops, and future ceramic experiences at The Studio.
